    FAQ

    Can I use MCE syringe filters with organic solvents?

    No. MCE is specifically designed for aqueous (water-based) solutions. It has limited resistance to organic solvents (like ethanol or acetone). For organic solvent filtration, we recommend using our PTFE or Nylon series. Using MCE with incompatible chemicals may cause the membrane to dissolve and contaminate your sample.

    What makes MCE better than Nylon for biological samples?

    MCE features lower non-specific protein binding compared to Nylon. This ensures higher recovery rates for proteins and enzymes in biological assays. While Nylon is a versatile "workhorse," MCE is the superior "specialist" for sensitive aqueous biological fluids where sample loss must be minimized.

    How do I choose between 13mm, 25mm, and 33mm diameters?

    It depends on your sample volume: • 13mm: Best for samples <10mL (minimizes "hold-up" volume loss). • 25mm: Standard for 10-100mL samples. • 33mm: Ideal for >100mL or fast-flow requirements due to its larger filtration area.

    Are these "Economy" filters autoclavable?

    We do not recommend autoclaving our non-sterile Economy MCE series. MCE is heat-sensitive and may lose membrane integrity above 45°C-55°C. If you require sterile filtration, we offer Pre-sterilized (EO/Gamma) versions in individual blister packs to ensure

    Why is the housing color-coded in Orange?

    In a busy lab, cross-contamination is a risk. Our Orange-coded housing allows for instant visual identification of the MCE membrane, preventing accidental use of the wrong material (e.g., mistaking MCE for PVDF or PTFE) and ensuring SOP compliance.
