The PTFE/Silicone Advantage

 

The choice of septum material dictates the success of your injection. This kit includes a bonded PTFE/Silicone septum, the industry standard for HPLC and GC.

  • PTFE Layer (Red/White): The chemically inert barrier that faces the sample. It resists organic solvents, acids, and bases, ensuring the septum does not contaminate your sample.

  • Silicone Layer (White/Blue): Provides the mechanical elasticity. It ensures the vial septum reseals instantly after the needle is withdrawn, preventing sample evaporation or external contamination.

 

Pre-Assembled for Efficiency and Cleanliness

 

Handling loose septa can transfer skin oils or dust into the vial. Our 9mm screw caps come with the septa already inserted (and optionally bonded). “Bonded” means the septum is fused to the cap, preventing it from pushing into the vial during needle penetration—a common issue with non-bonded caps that can ruin an analysis run.

Why is the PTFE layer facing the sample? PTFE (Teflon) is chemically inert. It must face the sample to prevent the solvent from attacking the silicone layer, which could lead to “ghost peaks” in your chromatogram.

What is the benefit of a bonded cap and septum? A bonded septum is physically attached to the cap. This prevents the septum from falling out during transport and, more importantly, prevents “push-through” where the needle forces the septum into the vial.
