FAQ

Can these non-sterile PTFE syringe filters be used for biological cell culture?

Since these filters are non-sterile, they are not recommended for direct use in sterile cell culture environments unless you autoclave them first. They are primarily designed for analytical chemistry, HPLC sample preparation, and industrial solvent filtration.

What is the benefit of the "Red Ring" on the filter housing?

The Red Ring is a reinforcement feature created through secondary injection molding. It significantly increases the burst pressure resistance of the filter, ensuring the housing remains intact even when filtering high-viscosity samples or when using high manual pressure.

Which should I choose, Hydrophilic or Hydrophobic PTFE?

Use Hydrophilic PTFE for aqueous solutions or mixtures of water and organic solvents; it requires no pre-wetting. Use Hydrophobic PTFE for pure organic solvents or gas filtration; if using it for aqueous liquids, you must pre-wet the membrane with an alcohol (e.g., Ethanol or IPA) first.

Are these filters compatible with strong acids and bases?

Yes. PTFE is one of the most chemically resistant materials available. These filters are compatible with a pH range of 1-14, making them ideal for concentrated acids and strong alkaline solutions that would damage other membrane types like Nylon or PES.

What is the benefit of the 33mm diameter version?

The 33mm version offers a larger filtration area (4.6cm²) compared to 25mm, which results in faster flow rates and the ability to process larger sample volumes before the filter clogs.
